Presented at Public Records, *THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE* is an electronic opera recording performed by Long Beach Opera that returns to a defining New York story: the 1989 Central Park jogger case and the later overturning of five teenagers’ convictions. The work sits in the city’s cultural memory alongside earlier screen accounts, including the Burns family’s 2012 documentary, and shifts the material into music and voice. It treats the public record as subject matter, not spectacle. One hard truth emerges: in New York, narrative can move faster than justice.
