TJG George Wein Fellowship Commission 2026 presents Becca Stevens

The TJG George Wein Fellowship Commission 2026 lands at The Jazz Gallery as a live set shaped by the fellowship’s aim: giving working artists time, resources, and a New York stage to develop new music. Trumpeter Michael Rodriguez leads his septet, using the larger ensemble to test how composition and improvisation can share the same architecture. The commission sits in a city where premieres often become repertory, and where a small room can still function as a laboratory. If there’s a takeaway, it’s that the piece treats jazz as a process, not a finished product.
