Barry, The 1970s Black Sitcom That Never Happened

At PACNYC: Perelman Performing Arts Center, “Barry, The 1970s Black Sitcom That Never Happened” is presented in a conference-style live format that treats a fictional lost TV show as a historical object. The event reconstructs what network television rarely allowed in that era: a Black-led sitcom shaped by its own politics, humor, and domestic life. In a city that has long been a center for media labor and cultural debate, the piece reads like an audit of absence. Its sharpest insight is that what never aired can still leave an archive.
