Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony

At the New Museum, the other “I Am Tony” unfolds as an exhibition shaped by live presentation, where gallery time is treated like event time. Featuring Arthur Jafa, it draws on moving-image language and Black cultural memory, using rhythm, montage, and sound as organizing tools. In a city where museum performance has a long history of testing what “exhibition” can mean, the work sits squarely in that lineage. Its clearest achievement is how it lets structure, not explanation, carry the argument.
