A.R. Rahman: The Symphonic Experience
About This Event
A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges Tamil and Hindi cinema with international projects; his catalog ranges from song-driven pop to large-scale orchestral writing and has earned Academy Awards, Grammys and India’s Padma Bhushan. At NJPAC, A.R. Rahman: The Symphonic Experience places his screen and concert music in a symphonic setting, foregrounding orchestral structure and timbre rather than showmanship.
About A.R. Rahman: The Symphonic Experience
At NJPAC, A.R. Rahman leads “The Symphonic Experience,” a concert that reframes his film and concert writing through orchestral scale and stage performance. Rahman’s career bridges Tamil and Hindi cinema and international work, and has been recognized with two Academy Awards, two Grammys, and India’s Padma Bhushan. For New York–area audiences, it registers as a snapshot of how South Asian screen music has moved into global concert halls, not just cinemas. The program’s strength is its emphasis on composition and structure over nostalgia.
