New York City Ballet: Copland Dance Episodes
About This Event
The New York City Ballet, founded in 1948 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, presents Copland Dance Episodes at the New York City Ballet venue. The company, whose repertory has been shaped by Balanchine's emphasis on musicality and formal clarity, brings that choreographic lineage and technical rigor to this program.
About Copland Dance Episodes(ballet)
Presented by New York City Ballet, *Copland Dance Episodes* draws on Aaron Copland’s concert suite assembled from his film score for *Our Town*, translating its small-town Americana into distilled, abstract ballet. The company, founded in 1948 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, places the work within a repertory that has long tested how “American” music can read through classical form. Copland’s open harmonies and plainspoken rhythms give the dancers a clear architectural frame. One effect is to make nostalgia feel observed rather than indulged.
