tana draws on Ravi Shankar's Tana Mana, the 1987 experimental album that combined traditional instrumentation with 1980s electronic textures and sampling technology. At Market Hotel the performance references the album's hybrid production — much of it recorded in 1983 with sound-effects innovator Frank Serafine and released only after Peter Baumann of Private Music became involved — and its title, which translates as "body and mind."
