About This Event
Einstein on the Beach–50th Anniversary Concert returns to New York City in a concert presentation at BAM, revisiting the landmark collaboration of composer Philip Glass and director Robert Wilson. In this format the score’s procedural drive and the performers’ disciplined focus are foregrounded, so the work reads less like narrative theater than a sustained study in musical structure and time.
About Einstein on the Beach(opera)
Einstein on the Beach is an opera in four acts by Robert Wilson with music composed by Philip Glass. The opera eschews traditional narrative in favor of a formalist approach based on structured spaces laid out by Wilson in a series of storyboards which are framed and connected by five "knee plays" or intermezzos.
