About This Event
Alto and soprano saxophonist Eric Person brings his quartet to The Django, balancing open-ended free-jazz language with a clear melodic throughline. Based in New York since 1982 and leader of Meta-Four, Person has performed with McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, Donald Byrd, Chico Hamilton and the World Saxophone Quartet, as well as with Vernon Reid and Bootsy Collins. The program draws on his decades-long work across jazz and rock/funk spheres.

Eric Person is a New York–based alto and soprano saxophonist who has worked steadily in the city since arriving in 1982. A leader of the group Meta-Four, he has shared bandstands and sessions with McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, Donald Byrd, Chico Hamilton, and the World Saxophone Quartet, as well as artists from rock and funk worlds including Vernon Reid and Bootsy Collins.

About His work as a leader is stylistically diverse and intrepid, presenting solo works, music for jazz quartet, duo for sax/drum, an electric ensemble and big band. Over his nearly forty years as a musician in New York, Person has had the good fortune to perform with the vanguard of the jazz world namely McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland Wallace Roney, and cutting edge artists such as Vernon Reid, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and the World Saxophone Quartet.
