About Dyani White Hawk: Nourish
At Whitney Exhibitions, *Dyani White Hawk: Nourish* presents the artist’s ongoing inquiry into Native presence, abstraction, and the material histories carried by pattern. White Hawk, a Sicangu Lakota artist based in New York, draws on techniques associated with beadwork and textile traditions, translating them into painting and other studio forms without treating them as ethnographic ornament. In a city where Indigenous narratives are often sidelined, the exhibition reads as a corrective. One clear effect is how it asks viewers to consider abstraction as a site of cultural continuity, not escape.
