Philip Harper Quintet
About This Event
Trumpeter Philip Harper brings his quintet to Smalls Jazz Club, working in a tradition-rooted manner that favors clean articulation and direct melodic statement over surface display. Harper began trumpet at ten under his brother Danny, studied with Jackie McLean at the Hartt School and moved to New York at 18, where he recorded and performed with artists including "Little" Jimmy Scott, Jimmy McGriff, Betty Carter and Cedar Walton.
