Philip Harper Quartet
About This Event
Philip Harper brings his quartet to Smalls Jazz Club, in a working-band format that keeps the focus on ensemble conversation and tempo. Born in Baltimore in 1965, he studied with Jackie McLean at the Hartt School, moved to New York at 18 and has worked with musicians including "Little" Jimmy Scott, Jimmy McGriff and Cedar Walton. His trumpet favors clean articulation and direct melodic statement, leaving room for the rhythm section to shape the narrative.
