    About This Event

At David Geffen Hall a program pairs Antonín Dvořák with works by Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin, led by conductor Gustavo Gimeno with pianist Hélène Grimaud. Dvořák’s music draws on Bohemian and Moravian folk within late‑19th‑century symphonic form; Gershwin’s work bridges jazz, popular and classical idioms, while Bernstein represents American musical theater. Gimeno conducts; Grimaud favors structural clarity in her interpretations.

It premiered in New York City on 16 December 1893. It is one of the most popular of all symphonies. In older literature and recordings, this symphony was – as for its first publication – numbered as Symphony No. 5.
