About Telumayo

Telumayo is a New York City–based ensemble heard on stages including the Kupferberg Center for the Arts. The group’s work sits comfortably in modern jazz contexts, shaped by collaborations with artists such as Ithiris and Telavana, and by shared bills with Vincent Herring, Arturo O’Farrill, the John Yao Big Band, Wycliffe Gordon, Wallace Roney Jr., and Brass Queens. In Queens Jazz Trail programs, Telumayo often functions as a responsive unit alongside featured soloists like saxophonist-composer Tia Fuller. Their performances favor tight ensemble listening over display.
