Sumu is a New York City–based rock/pop group that turns up on mixed bills at Lower East Side rooms, including Arlene’s Grocery. They’ve shared lineups with Charm Bracelet, Cowboy Clean, and Piper Toohey, working in the same small-venue circuit where bands build sets in real time. Their songs tend to favor direct structures and clear vocal delivery, with guitars used as much for rhythm as for color. On streaming they remain an emerging presence, with a small but growing listener base.
