Souled American began in Chicago in 1986, emerging from a four-piece lineup led by songwriters Chris Grigoroff and Joe Adducci. Across six albums released between the late 1980s and mid-1990s, the group moved through personnel changes and gradually narrowed to a core duo, often joined by additional players. Their work sits at the edge of rock and pop, informed by alternative-country restraint and a preference for atmosphere over flash.
