Obasi Akoto Steve Kirby Quartet: Jazz Ensemble in New York

About Obasi Akoto Steve Kirby Quartet

Obasi Akoto Steve Kirby Quartet is a New York City–based small-group jazz project led by Obasi Akoto and Steve Kirby. Both musicians are fixtures on NYC bandstands, alternating between leading their own sets and working as sidemen across the scene. At Smalls Jazz Club, the quartet leans on close rhythmic coordination and direct, working‑club interpretations of standards and originals. Their performances favor ensemble conversation over display, with each player listening for openings rather than forcing them.
