MI6: Jazz Ensemble in New York

About MI6

MI6 is a New York City–based jazz group led by drummer George Schuller, heard most often at Bar Bayeux. The band works the seam between straight-ahead swing language and open, free improvisation, with a working lineup that has included Mike Fahn, Mike McGinnis, Luke Franco, Jim Hershman, and Maryann McSweeney. Schuller keeps the music anchored in form while leaving room for sudden turns, and the ensemble responds with close listening rather than display. Their sets emphasize structure under pressure.
