Melvin Gibbs: Singer-Songwriter in New York

About Melvin Gibbs

Melvin Gibbs is a bassist whose career moves between jazz, rock, and the city’s experimental scenes, with a discography that stretches across nearly 200 recordings. He has worked in jazz contexts with Ronald Shannon Jackson and Sonny Sharrock, and in rock settings with Rollins Band and Arto Lindsay. In New York, he’s a familiar presence in boundary-pushing lineups, including appearances at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel and as a member of Harriet Tubman and Body Meπa. His playing favors structure and grain over flash.
