MC Lyte: Hip-Hop Artist in New York

About MC Lyte

MC Lyte, born Lana Michele Moorer, is a New York–rooted rapper and songwriter whose work helped define late-1980s East Coast hip-hop. She broke a barrier with *Lyte as a Rock* in 1988, among the first full-length solo statements by a woman in rap, and early singles like “10% Dis” and “Paper Thin.” Her career also extends into acting and television work, including on-mic announcing. Onstage at Brooklyn Bowl, she favors direct delivery and lyrical precision over spectacle.
