Marquis Hill is a Chicago-born trumpeter, composer, and bandleader whose work sits inside the jazz tradition while drawing on hip-hop, R&B, Chicago house, and neo-soul. He came to wider attention after winning the Thelonious Monk Institute’s International Trumpet Competition in 2014. Hill treats his music as a living practice, building bands that leave room for groove and direct melodic lines.
