About Liza Lou

Liza Lou is an American visual artist known for large-scale works built from thousands of glass beads, a material she uses to test the boundary between domestic craft and monument. She led a studio practice in Durban, South Africa from 2005 to 2014, and now works nomadically, often outdoors in the Mojave Desert. Her projects draw attention to labor, surface, and social economies embedded in making. In New York City, her work is presented at the Brooklyn Museum in the ongoing exhibition “Liza Lou: Trailer.”
