Johnny O'Neal Celebrates 70: Jazz Musician in New York

About Johnny O'Neal Celebrates 70

Johnny O’Neal Celebrates 70 centers on the pianist and vocalist whose career spans straight-ahead jazz and the neo-bop tradition. Inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1997, O’Neal draws on the pianistic lineages of Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum, translating that influence into fleet runs and tight rhythmic control. At New York City’s Dizzy’s Club, he marks the milestone with “When October Goes,” a program shaped by songcraft and seasonal mood. His performances favor clarity and swing over display.
