Johnny O'Neal Birthday Celebration: Jazz Musician in New York

About Johnny O'Neal Birthday Celebration

Johnny O’Neal Birthday Celebration centers on the pianist and vocalist’s late-night set at Dizzy’s Club in New York City. O’Neal works in jazz with a neo-bop vocabulary, moving between brisk technical passages and unhurried ballads. His playing shows the imprint of Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum, and he has led sessions with musicians including Russell Malo. Onstage, he tends to favor clarity and swing over overt showmanship.
