Jimmy Heath Big Band Centennial Celebration: Jazz Ensemble in New York

About Jimmy Heath Big Band Centennial Celebration

Jimmy Heath Big Band Centennial Celebration is a New York City big-band project presented at Dizzy’s Club, built around the book of saxophonist and composer-arranger Jimmy Heath, known as “Little Bird.” Drawing from bebop and hard-bop language, the ensemble returns to charts that Heath wrote for large groups as well as smaller-band tunes that translate naturally to a fuller palette. The program treats the arrangements as living material rather than museum pieces. The playing favors line and orchestration over volume.
