Jimmy Heath Big Band: Jazz Ensemble in New York

About Jimmy Heath Big Band

Jimmy Heath Big Band carries forward the arranger-led tradition associated with saxophonist and composer Jimmy Heath, known as “Little Bird.” Heard at Dizzy’s Club in New York City, the ensemble foregrounds Heath’s bebop and hard-bop language, with charts built around clear melodic lines and sectional counterpoint. The band has appeared in the Jimmy Heath Big Band Centennial Celebration, a program centered on repertoire that remains in circulation among working big bands. Their performances favor precision and swing over display.
