Jeffrey Gibson is a painter and sculptor of Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee heritage, working across exhibition formats as well as objects. Based in and around New York State, he has maintained studios in Brooklyn and in upstate communities including Hudson and Germantown, and his work appears in New York City contexts such as the Met Museum Exhibitions. Recent presentations include *The Genesis Facade Commission: Jeffrey Gibson* and *The Animal That Therefore I Am*. His practice favors direct materials and patterned surfaces, where references to identity and contemporary culture sit in uneasy alignment.
