Jason Marsalis: Jazz Musician in New York

About Jason Marsalis

Jason Marsalis is a jazz drummer, vibraphonist, composer, and bandleader from the Marsalis family, shaped by the musical and educational legacy of his father, pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr. In New York City he appears at Dizzy’s Club, where he has led projects including *Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis*, centered on seldom-heard repertoire associated with his father. His work moves comfortably through swing-era language and early American forms, including ragtime. As a leader, he tends to favor structure and ensemble balance over showmanship.
