    About Jan Swafford

Jan Swafford is an American composer and music writer whose work moves between concert music and broader popular idioms. Trained at Harvard and the Yale School of Music, he studied with composers including Earl Kim, Jacob Druckman, and Betsy Jolas. In print, he is known for major biographies of composers from Ives to Mozart, alongside guides and essays on listening. In New York, his music has been heard at Bargemusic, including the Horszowski Trio’s NY premiere of *They That Mourn*; his writing and composing share a plainspoken, historically alert voice.
