Flor de Toloache: Jazz Ensemble in New York

About Flor de Toloache

Flor de Toloache is a New York City–based, all-female mariachi group formed in 2008 by Mireya I. Ramos and Shae Fiol. The band’s work draws from mariachi tradition while moving through adjacent currents, including reggae en español and jazz-leaning improvisation. At downtown rooms such as Arthur’s Tavern, Ramos has also appeared under her own name, folding DJ electronics and club sequencing into Latin folk source material. The through line is discipline: the performances favor structure and rhythmic precision over spectacle.
