About F. W. Murnau
F. W. Murnau is a German filmmaker whose silent-era work continues to circulate in performance contexts as much as in cinema history. In presentations such as the 100th-anniversary screening of *Faust* at Berlin, his images are paired with contemporary live scoring, including collaborations with composer Igor Yachmenov. His practice shows a director trained in the mechanics of film, shaping movement and shadow with choreographic precision. The result favors formal control over spectacle, inviting music and projection to function as one stage.
