Darius Jones is an American saxophonist and composer whose work moves between classical writing, jazz language, and free improvisation. He also teaches African-American music, and that scholarly grounding shows up in the way he builds structure inside open forms. In New York City he has appeared at Roulette and Bar Bayeux, including performances with bassist Stephan Crump and drummer Eric McPherson, and in collaborative settings with artists such as Tashi Dorji. His playing favors narrative continuity over spectacle, even at its most abstract.
