    About Bill Irwin

Bill Irwin is an American actor, choreographer, and clown whose work grew out of vaudeville technique and the physical disciplines that helped fuel the U.S. circus revival of the 1970s. On Broadway he earned a Tony Award for acting in *Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?* and later received a Tony nomination for choreography for *Largely New York*. In New York City he appears at the Todd Haimes Theatre with The Imaginary Invalid in a Molière staging that leans on dance, musical breaks, and exacting physical timing. His performances favor clarity and comic mechanics over ornament.
