Altin Sencalar is a jazz saxophonist and bandleader heard on late-night bills at New York City’s Smalls Jazz Club. He leads the Altin Sencalar Sextet, using original compositions and arrangements as a framework for group improvisation and tight ensemble cues. The writing gives the horns room to move while keeping the rhythm section in active dialogue. His performances favor structure and blend over display, with the band’s interaction doing much of the storytelling.
