Matthew Barney: Performing Artist in New York

About Matthew Barney

Matthew Barney is an American artist whose practice moves between film, sculpture, and performance, often built around intricate systems of narrative and material process. In New York City he appears at Public Records in conversation with longtime collaborator Jonathan Bepler, with moderator Andy Battaglia, under the New People’s Cinema Club x Unsound New York banner. Bepler’s experimental compositions have been central to Barney’s screen-based work, where sound functions less as accompaniment than as structure. His projects favor rigorous internal logic over easy interpretation.
