Matana Roberts Presents: Classical Musician in New York

About Matana Roberts Presents

Matana Roberts Presents is the performance banner for New York–based composer and improviser Matana Roberts, whose work moves between classical structures, free jazz, and sound experimentation. Presented at Roulette, projects such as “off the record…” draw on Roberts’ background as a saxophonist and clarinetist with ties to the AACM and the B.R.C. The music often combines extended techniques with composed frameworks and open-ended ensemble direction. Her sets tend to prioritize structure and intent over spectacle.
