Michael Powers: Jazz Musician in New York

About Michael Powers

Michael Powers is a Seattle-based guitarist whose work sits at the meeting point of jazz harmony and blues electric grit. He has been touring and recording since the 1970s, building a long-running bandstand practice that translates easily to live rooms like New York City’s Terra Blues. His discography includes the charting albums *Perpetual Motion* and *Frosty the Bluesman*, documents of a player fluent in both straight-ahead phrasing and blues-rock drive. In performance, he tends to favor craft and groove over display.
