Bennie Wallace: Jazz Musician in New York

About Bennie Wallace

Bennie Wallace is an American tenor saxophonist whose work sits in the lineage of hard bop and jazz ballads, with a sound built on blunt attack and flexible phrasing. In New York City he has appeared at Dizzy’s Club, including performances of his BackCountry Jazz project. Onstage, Wallace often favors direct melodic statements over decorative effects, letting rhythm and tone carry the narrative. He has shared the bandstand with drummer Herlin Riley, a longtime New York presence with deep ties to Jazz at Lincoln Center.
