Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis: Jazz Musician in New York

About Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis

Jason Marsalis Presents the Rare Works of Ellis Marsalis centers on repertoire by pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis Jr., framed by Jason Marsalis’s leadership as drummer, vibraphonist, and composer. At Dizzy’s Club in New York City, the program treats Ellis’s lesser-heard compositions as working material, not museum pieces. The ensemble draws on the Marsalis family’s shared history on bandstands, with Jason guiding the pacing and orchestration. The approach favors structure and swing over display, letting the tunes carry the narrative.
