Johnny O'Neal: Jazz Musician in New York

About Johnny O'Neal

Johnny O’Neal is an American jazz pianist and vocalist known for a neo-bop language shaped by elders such as Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. A 1997 inductee of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, he has led recording sessions and worked with players including guitarist Russell Malone. In New York City, he appears at venues such as Dizzy’s Club and the Kupferberg Center for the Arts, including Queens Jazz Trail programs with Arturo O’Farrill. His performances favor clarity and swing over spectacle, moving easily from hard-running lines to plainspoken ballads.
