Michael Dease: Jazz Musician in New York

About Michael Dease

Michael Dease is a jazz trombonist, composer, and producer whose work moves between tenor and bass trombone, with additional command of saxophone, trumpet, flugelhorn, bass, and piano. In New York City, he is a familiar presence at Smalls Jazz Club, often leading small-group projects such as the Michael Dease New Quintet and the Michael Dease Quartet. His writing treats the ensemble like a compact horn section, with lines that interlock and push the rhythm section forward. The playing favors density and precision over display.
