About Mike DiRubbo

Mike DiRubbo is a New York City–based alto and soprano saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and educator working in the post-bop tradition. He has released ten albums under his own name and is also heard as a sideman with artists including Steve Davis, Mario Pavone, Al Foster, Joe Farnsworth, Jimmy Cobb, and Harold Mabern. At venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, he often appears in small-group settings, including Ari Hoenig’s projects and his own quartet. His playing favors a tenor-like phrasing and line-driven improvisation over effects.
