Rob Scheps Quartet is a New York City–based jazz group led by saxophonist Rob Scheps, a longtime presence on the club circuit. Scheps began on tenor sax as a child, studied at the New England Conservatory, and relocated to New York in 1988 after leading ensembles in the Boston area. At Smalls Jazz Club, the quartet often shares the stand with musicians such as bassist Ricky Rodriguez, whose work is linked to the Blue Note scene. The band’s playing favors line, balance, and close ensemble listening over display.
