Hopeless Otis is a New York City–based group working at the edges of rock/pop with a folk-punk streak and a free-improvisation sensibility. They’ve appeared at Purgatory, including the venue’s DOWNSTAIRS: Level Up! Video Game Club, where rotating basement-lineup pairings push short sets toward spontaneous turns. Their collaborators include DJ TK, Porcelain Vivisection, Clown Syndrome, Uncle Blender, Consumer Culture, Grace Givertz, Adelyn Strei, and Hannah Thompson. The performances favor friction and quick decisions over polish.
