    About Obasi Akoto

Obasi Akoto is a jazz musician heard on New York City bandstands, including sets at Smalls Jazz Club. His work moves between small-group leadership and sideman roles, with credits alongside drummer Steve Johns, The Mythology Band, and the Obasi Akoto Quartet. In performance, he favors ensemble conversation and tight rhythmic alignment over showmanship. His quartet appearances document a player shaped by the working-club tradition, attentive to the room and to the details of the tune.
