50th Anniversary of Soweto Youth Uprising is a project presented at Dizzy’s Club in New York City, marking the legacy of the 1976 student protests in Soweto through a contemporary jazz lens. The program is led by Motswana–South African pianist, composer, and producer Bokani Dyer with the Bokani Dyer Trio, drawing on his work across jazz, electronic music, R&B, salsa, and classical influences. The set treats commemoration as structure, moving between groove-based writing and open improvisation. The performances favor clarity over spectacle.
