    About Astor Piazzolla

Astor Piazzolla is presented at Groupmuse NYC in programs that place his rock- and pop-leaning sensibility in conversation with Johann Sebastian Bach and Maurice Ravel, as heard in sets like “Piazzolla, Bach, Ravel and more.” His background reflects a composer-performer’s discipline, shaped by close attention to counterpoint, rhythm, and the mechanics of ensemble playing. In these New York performances, his writing reads as structured but restless, borrowing classical forms while keeping a streetwise pulse. The approach favors precision over display.
