GWAR is a long-running American heavy metal collective that began in Richmond, Virginia in the mid-1980s, built by musicians alongside visual artists and filmmakers working under the Slave Pit Inc. banner. The band’s lineup has shifted over decades, yet the project has continued to record and tour into the present era. Their live shows treat performance as a constructed world, with character and staging treated as integral to the music. In the New York area, they bring that approach to rooms like Starland Ballroom, including bills with Soulfly and King Parrot.
