George Frideric Handel: Opera Singer in New York

About George Frideric Handel

George Frideric Handel was a German-born composer who built his career in Britain, shaping the Baroque stage through opera, sacred drama, and instrumental writing. His oratorios—especially *Messiah*—remain central to New York City concert life, regularly heard at David Geffen Hall in large-scale choral performances. Handel’s music favors direct rhetoric and clear architectural pacing, built to carry text across a hall without excess ornament. The result is public, communal, and durable, even when filtered through modern forces and conductors.
